I found a journal article in a database, but it’s not full-text. What do I do?
Answer
Follow these steps, in this order:
- If there is no link to a PDF of the article, or "Link to "Full Text," use the “Check for Full Text” link for the article you want. This will open up a new tab to show you links to possible places in which your article's full text may be found. Please know that selecting a link will provide you with a search for your article in that resource. For example, selecting Google Scholar will search for your exact article (title, author, journal, etc.). There is no need to type in a search for your article.
- If none of these "Check for Full Text" options produce your article's full text, use the "Request this item through interlibrary loan" link. Whether you are on-campus or off-campus, you will now be prompted to login SSO. Once again, you are not required to do a separate search for the article. By selecting the "Request this item through interlibrary loan" link, the request form for the article is already filled out.
- Fill out the remainder of the form, including "Where did you learn about this item?"
- Select "Submit Request."
Turnaround time is usually 3-5 business days, but is often much less. You will now receive an email at your University address with a link to the full text of the article. In rare instances, you will receive an email stating that a print copy of your article is waiting for you at the Library Circulation Desk.
