I found a journal article in a database, but it’s not full-text. What do I do?

Answer

Follow these steps, in this order:

  1. If there is no link to a PDF of the article, or "Link to "Full Text," use the “Check for Full Text” link for the article you want.  This will open up a new tab to show you links to possible places in which your article's full text may be found.  Please know that selecting a link will provide you with a search for your article in that resource.  For example, selecting Google Scholar will search for your exact article (title, author, journal, etc.).  There is no need to type in a search for your article.
  2. If none of these "Check for Full Text" options produce your article's full text, use the "Request this item through interlibrary loan" link.  Whether you are on-campus or off-campus, you will now be prompted to login SSO.  Once again, you are not required to do a separate search for the article.  By selecting the "Request this item through interlibrary loan" link, the request form for the article is already filled out.
  3. Fill out the remainder of the form, including "Where did you learn about this item?"
  4. Select "Submit Request."

Turnaround time is usually 3-5 business days, but is often much less.  You will now receive an email at your University address with a link to the full text of the article.  In rare instances, you will receive an email stating that a print copy of your article is waiting for you at the Library Circulation Desk.

You may check the status of your request by logging into ILLIAD.
