How can students use Microsoft Word off campus?

I've heard from many teachers that students can use Microsoft Office products on their own laptops. However, I didn't have time to learn how before we got sent online. How can I use Microsoft Office on my laptop while off-campus?

Answer

According to this Office of Technology page, Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PPT, etc.) are freely accessible to students working remotely in two ways:

Option #1 - Office Web Apps - basic-featured - runs in web browser
Your Office365 student email account also offers access to Office Web Apps and the OneDrive cloud storage solution to automatically save your Office Web App files. Office Web Apps currently include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote. They can be accessed through the App Drawer in the upper left corner of your student email account webmail. To get started, please see this Introduction to Office Web Apps and OneDrive for Students.

Option #2 - Office ProPlus software - full-featured - installs on device
Microsoft Office 365 Professional Plus is available to students free of charge for personal use on up to five devices. This software can be downloaded from the software section of Office 365 app settings located on the gear menu in the upper right corner of your student email account webmail.
